Young People

The Den is our dedicated space for young people – created by and for young people.

The Den will launch in October 2012 along with the M.A.D.E. Festival, the MAC’s very first youth festival.  We’ll soon be on the lookout for young people aged 14 – 18yrs to work with the MAC team to create and deliver the M.A.D.E festival as well as other exciting events and programmes throughout the year.

The Den is your chance to take the lead.  Work with other young people to create, direct, stage and manage your own projects and events for other young people in the MAC.

We will be recruiting for a group of enthusiastic young people, supported by our Learning and Participation team, to shape Den activities.

The group will meet once a week, during term time from September 2012 to April 2013.  Members will take part in fun and interactive skills development training, with support from industry professionals, to shape an annual programme of activities for young people visiting the MAC.

M.A.D.E (Music, Art, Dance and Everything)

The MAC will run a ten day festival for 14 – 18yr olds that will include performance, art, dance and everything in between.  You can take part in the amazing  M.A.D.E festival in a number of ways:

Wayne McGregor | Random Dance – Lucky budding young dancers will get the chance to dance with some of the UK’s best professional dancers for one whole week to create a final showcase that will be performed right throughout the spaces in the MAC.  You won’t want to miss this amazing opportunity – keep posted for more info soon.

Grow Your Own – Be part of an experimental project that taps into the trend of living a more sustainable lifestyle.  The MAC will create its very own ‘Pop Up’ garden where young people can experience growing and eating their own fruit and veg.

Bring Your Own – Music will be a huge part of the M.A.D.E Festival and there will be lots on offer throughout the Festival, from workshops and pod discos, to Scratch Orchestras.  If you can play an instrument that’s great, but if you can hum a melody or beat out a rhythm on a table top then you’ll have an amazing time in the scratch Orchestra!

Volunteer

We have lots of opportunities for young people to get involved in the MACtivist Volunteer Programme. Our young MACtivists will be trained to deliver gallery tours and workshops, gaining invaluable career skills, experience and contacts.
