The MAC, in partnership with The Rainbow Project's Gay Ethnic Group and TheatreofplucK, proudly re-presents So I Can Breathe This Air by award-winning playwright Shannon Yee, known for their acclaimed piece Reassembled, Slightly Askew and Trouble.
This is the one-hour edited film version of the Arts Council-sponsored unique audio walking tour from Belfast City Centre to the heart of East Belfast exploring often moving and sometimes darkly humorous stories of LGBTQIA+ people from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
Some are newly-arrived asylum seekers, others are students or economic migrants and a few are born or bred in NI. Together they share their journeys of belonging.
The film will be introduced by Director Niall Rea and contributors, and writer Shannon Yee and others will take part in a post-film Q+A.
To close the event Dean Lee, experienced Co-Cultural Counsellor at the Rainbow Project will offer the audience the option to take part in a guided meditation/visualisation to help reflect and process their own perspectives on the theme of belonging. Dean was also a Co-producer and contributor to the project and film.
