We're looking forward to welcoming you to Movies At Christmas. Here you'll find the information you need for your visit.
We have introduced a one-way system at the MAC, as part of our efforts to keep everyone safe. On arrival, please enter via the door at Exchange Street West. There you will be met by a member of staff. Please note that you may have to queue for a few moments.
Please show your e-tickets, and our staff will check you in and direct you towards Door B to enter the Luminaire Cinema. If you have booked kids or adults party packs, these will be waiting for you at your table. If you have booked a pre-cinema meal please let our meeter greeter know and they’ll direct you to our Cafe Bar. Otherwise, drinks and snacks can be purchased at the Cafe Bar and brought into the cinema.
Frequently Asked Questions
How are you ensuring a socially distanced experience?
We are ensuring that we work to a 2meter social distance within the Luminaire Club. This means that there will be 2m of space beside, in front and between you and other tables. There are only 16 cabaret tables in the space allowing for a maximum of 32 audience members. When booking your tickets on themaclive.com you’ll be able to book a bubble of tickets for your group, which means that only your family or social bubble will be seated at your particular table. To make this work, you can select the bubble size that works for your party, within the current government maximum restriction of 6 people.
What other customer safety measures will you have in place?
As with elsewhere in the MAC, our one-way system will apply in the Luminaire Club. Audience members are required to enter the theatre via door B and leave via door A. You will have minimised contact with one member of our visitor services team who will be on hand at Door B of the theatre to show you to your seats or to answer any questions. We are issuing E-tickets only, to minimise touch and face to face points. Hand sanitising stations are available throughout the MAC and at the entrance to the theatre.
What age are child tickets for?
You should book a child ticket for anyone who is under 16 but older than two years old.
Under twos require a babes-in-arms ticket (email tickets@themaclive.com) and 16-year-olds require an adult ticket.
What is a relaxed screening?
All of our 10:30am film screenings are ‘relaxed screenings’ this Christmas. These relaxed cinema screening have been specifically designed to welcome both young families and people who may benefit from a more relaxed environment such as those with a learning disability, Down’s Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Condition or sensory and communication disorders. There’ll be a relaxed attitude to noise with some further changes made to the lighting in the Luminaire Club and the film volume. An easy way to understand the atmosphere is perhaps, ‘the opposite of the quiet carriage on the train’.
Do you have a babes-in-arms policy?
Yes – we have a babes-in-arms policy for our Movies at Christmas, which we’ve extended to apply to children under two. We understand the cabaret seats might be trickier for our littlest audience members, so we aren’t charging for a child under the age of two as they will not be allocated a seat but are welcome to sit on an adult’s knee or remain in their buggy to enjoy the film. If you wish to book a babes-in-arms ticket, please email tickets@themaclive.com after you place your order and we will add that for you. We are committed to providing the best possible customer service to everyone visiting the MAC so we've made the MAC as family-friendly as possible. If there’s anything you think we’ve missed, please let us know. At present, we have baby changing facilities, the entire building is buggy friendly, we welcome breastfeeding, and our Cafe Bar offers a yummy children’s menu too.
What is your refund policy?
Refunds are available for events happening up to 31 March 2021 for bookers who are unwell or need to self-isolate. Please contact tickets@themaclive.com if you require a refund for either of these reasons.
Which seats are best to book for access?
If you have access needs, we recommend that you book seats on the ground level of the Luminaire Club. On the seating plan, these are labelled 9 – 16. Tables 1 – 8 are on a raised level with step access.
Which seats are best to book for babies?
If you have a baby in your group, we recommend that you book seats on the ground level of the Luminaire Club. On the seating plan, these are labelled 9 – 16. You’ll be able to bring your buggy into the theatre space with you, so seats on this level have easy access with no steps. As per our Babes in Arms policy, under 2’s do not require a ticket, but must sit on an adults' knee or remain in their buggy to enjoy the film.
Where is the nearest parent and baby toilet?
The closest parent and baby toilet to our Luminaire Club is on the ground floor beside door A. Please exit the cinema screening via Door A and the toilet will be on your left. To re-enter the cinema screening, please do so via Door B.
Can I buy food and snacks on arrival?
We recommend that you add on your cinema party packs or pre-cinema dining packages whilst booking your cinema tickets online, however, if you’d like to purchase food or snacks on the day, our Cafe Bar will be open and selling cinema party packs as well as serving soft drinks, hot drinks, snacks, brunch and lunches too.
Can I buy food or snacks during the film?
No – we recommend that you do not leave your seat during the film to ensure that social distancing is adhered to within the space. The Cafe Bar will be closed to cinema bookers during the screening.
Will the space be ventilated?
The ventilation system in the Luminaire Club will be running throughout which will ensure safer flow of fresh air.
Will the tables and chairs be sanitised?
Our team will be working hard to ensure that the tables and chairs in the Luminaire Club will be highly sanitised before and after every cinema screening. High frequency touchpoints such as bannisters and door handles will also continue to be sanitised on a regular basis to ensure customer safety. We do however encourage you to use the hand sanitisers provided when you arrive and as you move around the building. We appreciate your cooperation on this matter.
Will there be an interval?
No – there will not be an interval during our film screenings. We recommend that you arrive early to purchase your drinks and snacks at our Cafe Bar and use the restroom facilities before the movie begins. The Cafe Bar will be closed to cinema bookers during the screening.
