Hatch & Scratch is an annual development opportunity that offers artists a bursary to research and develop an idea in its earliest stages. Hatch artists, across a 12 month period beginning each April, have access to resources, technical support, staff expertise, and crucially rehearsal or office space, as well as either free or reduced price tickets to MAC performances.
Artists are asked to respond to a theme, which may be tangentially or abstractly knitted into their idea, or explicitly communicated throughout the work – we are open to all approaches. The Scratch night itself exists to offer kind, critical feedback as well as peer to peer reflection and support.
Hatch & Scratch encourages risk-taking, experimentation, and innovation that aims to enrich artistic practice. It offers a moment to give the most nebulous idea space to breathe to see what the potential is; whether there’s something worth further investigation.
