What is the Wiggle Room?
The Wiggle Room is an interactive play space launching in the MAC, from 19 September – 29 November 2024. When you move around the room your body triggers unique characters, animations, and sounds in real-time. It all plays out on an interactive screen.
Who created The Wiggle Room?
The Wiggle Room was brought to life by Boom Clap Play in collaboration with Big Motive and Play Board NI and was commissioned by Belfast 2024. The most exciting part? It was co-designed with the help of Belfast’s own children through a series of fun and creative workshops.
How does it work?
The Wiggle Room uses cutting-edge technology and sensors to detect your movements. Whether you’re dancing, jumping, or just wiggling, your actions trigger colourful visual effects, quirky characters, and playful sounds that respond in real-time, creating a fully immersive experience.
Who can participate?
The Wiggle Room is designed primarily for children aged 5 - 11, but anyone who’s young at heart and ready to play is welcome to join in the fun!
Is it safe for children?
Absolutely! The Wiggle Room has been carefully designed with safety in mind. The interactive elements are fully digital, ensuring a soft and safe environment where kids can explore and play freely.
Do I need to book in advance?
No need to book in, it’s part of an open gallery experience at the MAC, so you can come down and enjoy the whole building. The galleries are open Tuesday – Sunday from 11am – 5pm.
How long can I stay in The Wiggle Room?
Sessions typically last about 15 minutes but can last longer depending on your interest in wiggling, giving you plenty of time to explore, play, and enjoy the interactive elements.
What should I wear?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that allow for easy movement. Trainers or other soft-soled shoes are ideal for enjoying the experience to the fullest.
Can parents or guardians join in?
Yes! Parents and guardians are encouraged to join in the fun or simply watch from the sidelines as their kids get wiggling. There’s something here for everyone to enjoy!
