The artist-duo use their shared passion for mountaineering as a way of exploring intertwined notions of life, culture and society.
For the past three years Shipsides and Beggs Projects have been researching a historically rich form of mountaineering called Via Ferrata (the iron way) in the Italian Dolomites. The artists produce open-ended works that originate from their experiences such as Every Metallic Thing is Being Beckoned, 2010, and Marmolada Beez, 2010, which relate to a close encounter with a lightning strike whilst on the summit of the Dolomites’ highest peaks.
