Dan Shipsides and Neal Beggs are both artists and avid climbers. They have been collaborating since 2004, creating various works under the name Shipsides and Beggs Projects.
For the past three years Shipsides and Beggs Projects have been researching a historically rich form of mountaineering called Via Ferrata (the iron way) in the Italian Dolomites. The artists produce open-ended works that originate from their experiences such as Every Metallic Thing is Being Beckoned, 2010, and Marmolada Beez, 2010, which relate to a close encounter with a lightning strike whilst on the summit of the Dolomites’ highest peaks.
