Here Comes the Sun: Solar Power at the MAC

There’s something new shining down on the MAC this week – and it’s not just the Belfast sunshine. We’ve just installed 40kW of solar panels on our roof, and they’re already starting to make a difference.
Together, these panels will generate around 37,000 kWh of clean electricity every year. To put it simply, that’s about the same as powering more than a dozen homes – or about 6% of the MAC’s own electricity needs.
So why now? This year’s theme is Climate in Action. For us, that means thinking beyond what happens on our stages and gallery walls, and looking at how we run our building day to day.

We believe that small changes – in energy use, recycling, or greener travel - add up to big results. By putting the sun to work for us, we’re cutting down on fossil fuels and taking another practical step towards a more sustainable future for Belfast and beyond.
