We invite you to join us for the New Visions Symposium, where we will explore the current challenges facing post-primary art education in Northern Ireland and imagine possible solutions.
This symposium is designed for people who are passionate about rethinking arts education including head teachers, art teachers, artists, academics, and policymakers. The day will feature panels and discussions focused on the key educational issues identified by those working in the field.
New Visions is a three-year project (2024-2027) led by the MAC. It's inspired by educationalist bell hooks' vision of education, “Seeing the classroom always as a communal place enhances the likelihood of collective effort in creating and sustaining a learning community”. Together with our six ArtistTeachers, from comprehensive schools across Northern Ireland, we are co-designing programs that will enable us to reimagine art education and address educational issues identified by practitioners.
This project is supported by the Freelands Foundation and is run in collaboration with the following schools: Cullybackey College, Newry High School, Hazelwood Integrated College, Newtownabbey, St Conor's College, Clady, St Benedict’s College, Randalstown, and St Louise’s Comprehensive College, Belfast.
Registration is at 9.30am, with the symposium starting at 10am.
Lunch and refreshments will be served at the event – please notify the MAC of any allergies. The event will end with a drinks reception from 4pm.
