We've teamed up with Akram Khan Company, one of the foremost innovative dance companies in the world, to host the 3rd edition of AKC Summer Intensive between 15 and 20 August 2022.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Irish dancers to train with a leading dance company and we encourage dancers from all over Ireland to apply.

AKC Summer Intensive is a 6-day immersive training programme expanding, for this year’s edition, into a choreographic lab welcoming three choreographers to R&D ideas and processes with participants in the studio as part of their artistic journey. Under the direction and mentorship of Akram Khan and Mavin Khoo, and AKC's associate artist, Joy Alpuerto Ritter, participants will have a unique opportunity to challenge their own practice, immerse themselves in a creative process, broaden their artistic horizons and further their training and experience of R&D with Akram and invited choreographers.

AKC has invited onboard AKC artistic collaborators Joy Alpuerto Ritter and Hannes Langolf to curate the cohort of choreographers. Please note that there is no application process for choreographers. The names of the choreographers will be communicated later in the process.

AKC Legacy is dedicated to supporting dance artists and providing them with the time and resources to practice, think, research, reflect and critically engage with their art. In light of the past few years, AKC Legacy reaffirms its commitment to developing projects and facilitating opportunities to allow generations of dancers and choreographers to encounter each other and experiment in the studio. Reflecting the Company’s values of courage, curiosity, caring, collaboration and connection, we are working with AKC and Theatre and Dance NI, Northern Ireland’s leading support organisation for Theatre and Dance, to support growing talent in the international dance ecosystem. AKC will cover the tuition costs of this year’s Summer Intensive programme and provide subsistence for the intensive week.

Selection

AKC is committed to offering dancers the conditions to further, deepen and enrich their practice. AKC artistic team will select 30 national and international dancers through an online application process.

Dancers must have at least 3 years of full-time training, a strong classical base as well as contemporary dance and improvisational techniques. We are looking for dancers with an open and curious mindset and a desire to fully immerse and serve a creative process.

The dancers will be selected by AKC artistic team. Applicants will receive notification of the results by email on Friday 25 March 2022.
