Sustainability in Action: Welcoming Our Newest Placement Student at The MAC
At The MAC, we’re always striving to make our creative space more sustainable, and fresh perspectives play a big part in that mission. Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming Jette, a placement student from Queen’s University Belfast’s MSc Leadership for Sustainable Development program, who has brought energy and innovative thinking to our sustainability efforts.

During her time with us, Jette worked closely with our Facilities Manager, Emmett, tackling some of the MAC’s key sustainability challenges. From rethinking waste management to reviewing and strengthening our sustainability policy, her input has been invaluable. One major focus of Jette's time here has been looking at how we can upgrade the MAC’s Green Tourism Award from bronze to silver, and her contributions on this have helped move us closer to achieving that milestone.
When asked about her experience, Jette shared:
“Working at the MAC means having a different day every day! I really enjoy working with Emmett and being able to bring my thoughts and ideas into their current sustainability actions. Everyone has been super nice and welcoming, and I even got to work a show, which was really fun.”
Jette’s placement is part of Queen’s University Belfast’s dynamic MSc Leadership for Sustainable Development program, which blends academic study with real-world experience. Students complete three 8-week placements, working directly with organisations, just like the MAC, to turn their learning into meaningful action.
It’s been a joy to have Jette as part of our team, and we’re incredibly grateful for the passion and hard work she’s brought to the MAC. Her fresh perspective has been a key part of our ongoing sustainability journey. We look forward to continuing partnerships with students and future changemakers who help us create a more sustainable future—one small step at a time.
