The MAC Welcomes New Artists in Residence for Autumn 2016

Our Artist in Residence space is a unique facility that brings international, national and home-grown artists from a range of genres to the MAC. We're delighted to be welcoming AMINI as our first visual artists in residence this Autumn.

Igniting creative collaboration with artistic partners, audiences and local communities, the Artist in Residence programme at the MAC is helping to shape the cultural landscape in Northern Ireland.

Our Artist in Residence space is a unique facility that brings international, national and home-grown artists from a range of genres to the MAC. We're delighted to be welcoming AMINI as our first visual artists in residence this Autumn. They will be working with us in the building for 2 months in October and November this year, building on their programme of Critical Forums with other artists in the city, as well as presenting screenings and discussions as part of the Jarman Award tour at the MAC in early November.

Artists’ Moving Image Northern Ireland (AMINI) is an artist-led initiative founded by Michael Hanna and Jacqueline Holt in 2015.

AMINI has been set up to nurture and promote artists’ moving image within the region. They do this through the screening of hard-to-see work, alongside supporting the development of critical discourse around the medium through hosting the LUX Belfast Critical Forum at the MAC. AMINI continues to develop national and international networks through which to promote and create opportunities for artists connected to Northern Ireland.

Michael Hanna is an artist based in Belfast. He graduated from Edinburgh college of Art with BA Sculpture in 2009, and completed his MFA at the University of Ulster in 2012. His work has been shown in exhibitions in the UK and internationally including Rencontres Internationales at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin and Multiplicity at NURTUREart, New York. Since 2014 he has been one of the artists working with Corners of Europe, a socially engaged project designed to connect artists around the edges of Europe.
