Drawing the flower | 30 Nov/25 Jan/22 Mar | 10am | Age: 18+
This observational drawing session, led by Duncan Ross, invites you to draw in the gallery from historical artworks. You'll get to explore drawing in a variety of media, including graphite and oil pastel to generate a range of responses to the gallery artworks.
This session is suitable for all levels of ability.
Slow Art with Dougal McKenzie | 9-30 Jan | 6.30pm | Age: 18+
Slow Art was created to encourage us all to look at art for a little longer, in the hope that we not only see more, but also get to know the works in greater detail.
Exploring artworks more slowly can help us to form more stories, feelings, and opinions, about the works. Artist and Lecturer Dougal McKenzie will lead you in an exploration of four works from I See His Blood Upon the Rose over 4 weeks, enabling us to look more deeply and to understand the political, social and art historical context in which the work was created.
Petals on the Banner: plants and revolution | 18 Jan | 2pm-3.30pm | Age: 18+
Inspired by our exhibition I See His Blood Upon The Rose, Charlotte Salter-Townshend investigates the role of plants in revolution.
One day Masterclass in floral still life with Jennifer Trouton | 25 Jan | 10am-4.30pm | Age 18+
This masterclass will begin with a tour of I See His Blood Upon the Rose exhibition. Followed by a workshop in floral still life led by exhibiting artist Jennifer Trouton who will demonstrate her process of working on paper using watercolours. Jennifer will provide guidance and advice while you realise your own masterpiece.
This masterclass is open to people of all skills and abilities. All materials are provided and lunch is included as part of this session.
Flowers: Messages of Love and Protest in Poetry | 1-22 Feb | 11am-1pm | Age: 18+
This four-week poetry workshop series will explore how floral imagery has been used in poetry to convey different meanings over time, whether that be messages of love, friendship, or protest.
Hosted by poet Bebe Ashley, participants in Flowers: Messages of Love and Protest in Poetry will explore a range of poetic forms and write poems that convey their own messages, drawing on floral histories and botanical details.

Get ready for a fun-filled family adventure at the MAC! Follow two mischievous flowers as they lead you on a tour of the exhibition I See His Blood Upon the Rose.
More Bread, More Roses! | 1-29 Mar| 11am-2pm | Age: 18+
Throughout the history of art, the depiction of floral and botanical subjects has captivated artists and audiences alike. Over this four week series we are going tolean upon the legacies of some of the exhibiting artists and more contemporary artists who have expanded the use of floral motifs to activate feminist and queer messages in their work.
Women in Renaissance Art with Paola Bernardelli | 6 Mar | 7pm-9pm | Age: 18+
Want to know what inspired some of the most famous paintings ever made? Join exhibiting artist Paola Bernardelli for an insightful masterclass!
We'll explore the Renaissance, a time when art was changing the world. You'll learn about the differences between Italian and Dutch art, and discover how amazing women artists were painting incredible pictures hundreds of years ago.
